Rett Larson – Strength Coach for Team Germany and Founder of No Zombies

Rett Larson is currently the strength coach for the German Women’s Volleyball Team, where he is renowned for his innovative approach to warm-ups and training. Previously, he spent seven years in China, initially as Project Manager for EXOS-China, working with several Chinese Olympic teams in preparation for the 2012 London Games. Later, he joined the Chinese National Women’s Volleyball Team, which won both the 2015 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics in Rio. After the Gold Medal victory, Rett spent two years as the strength coach for the Netherlands Women’s Volleyball Team before joining Team Germany.

In addition to his extensive experience in sports science, Martin has developed several groundbreaking training tools, including the 30/15 Intermittent Fitness Test, which is widely used in handball and other sports to program high-intensity training and assess aerobic capacity. He also created the 5-5 running test, used to monitor training status through heart rate variability. Martin has worked with elite teams and academies, applying GPS-based match analysis and talent identification techniques to optimize player performance.

As the High-Performance Lead at Aspetar, and having previously held key roles at PSG, Olympique Lyonnais, Lille OSC, KitmanLabs, and Aspire Academy, Martin continues to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and practical application in elite sports. His expertise has been featured in over 250 scientific papers, and he has authored two best-selling books.
